"Gaeilgeoir"

Can someone tell me what the heck's up with the "gaelgoir" spelling showing up in the media this week? Is it a permissible variant? Not in my dictionary, it's not, but does someone have another source to make sense of this?

Where dat? Somebody actually used that word in the media?

Is it a permissible variant?

I wouldn't buy it. You'd have to convince me that Gaelge works, to get to the -oir form, and it is pretty hard to look at that without serious discomfort

Whew! Thanks, a Will -- thought I missed another round of spelling reform for a minute, there....
