One of the dangers of politicizing the language. Politicizing of the language was done by the Nationalists during the Troubles. The difficulty now is, that when you form a government with your former enemy, oddly enough they aren't going to leap with glad cries into the wonders of Irish for the sheer academic beauty of the exercize. When you've conditioned people to run the equation IRA=Gaelige Speaker, and the people holding the red pen were dealing with bombs and guns, something minor like linguistic equality becomes somewhat more than a small step. Early days, and perhaps folks will come to their senses, buut...
