I’m amused by how I can misread titles:
Fine for horse-lover who 'gave poteen to his nag' (March 2, 2007)
http://www.independent.ie/national-news/fine-for-horselover-who-gave-poteen-to-his-nag-47625.html
“It’s a well-known fact that strong liquor can take warts off a mule but a court was told yesterday it can also soothe the muscles of sickly stallions.
“A horse-owner caught with two bottles of poteen claimed they were strictly for veterinarian purposes as his beloved stallion was feeling poorly.”

Death's Door whiskey clearly impresses
Seeing as how Wes nabbed the Welsh newspaper item, here's an alcól item (since I happen to know he was keeping his eye out for such a thing):
Death's Door whiskey clearly impresses (Jan 7, 2008)
http://www.madison.com/tct/entertainment/265856
"'It's a lot like Irish putcheen,' says Ellison, using the anglicized version of the more familiar 'poteen' or 'poitin.' 'Although the flavor could be closer to Canadian whiskey because we use a distillate based on wheat.'"

Whisky galore in Ros Muc
(Jan 17, 2008)
http://www.galwayadvertiser.ie/content/index.php?aid=10171
"The Cóilín Sheáin Dharach sean-nós dance festival being held in Ros Muc over the weekend of January 25 to 27, like many cultural festivals in the Gaeltacht areas these days, will host a small contingent of Scottish Gaelic speakers."

Great disinfectant, but don't drink Irish moonshine
(Nov 23, 2007)
http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/news/local-national/article3188625.ece
"Some always said poteen, the Irish brand of illegal moonshine, was good for you and now it's pretty well official: it's great in poultices, a powerful disinfectant and is a 'brilliant' antiseptic."

Guinness good for you - official
At the risk of making this into the Gaeilge-and-beer blog....
Guinness good for you - official (Nov 13 2003, but still as true as ever)
from http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/3266819.stm
With thanks to Glenn for pointing this out to us, and to Mia for pointing it out to Glenn!
"A pint of the black stuff a day may work as well as an aspirin to prevent heart clots that raise the risk of heart attacks."
And on this note...don't forget to come out and see us at the Ren Fest this weekend!
[EDIT] Okay, fine, here's some Irish to tie it all together. The magnet on my fridge says "Guinness -- deoch an fhuinnimh" (if I'm seeing all the dots). I like to think this is an assertion that Guinness is the original energy drink.
